photo 1 [640x480]After Mooncake Wars several weeks ago, we decided with all the sickly sweet mooncakes we had, we really should have some nice salty stuff.  Sparkly mentioned that there’s this new place opened in QV called Shophouse Kitchen that served pretty good food, so we decided to try it.

photo 2 [640x480]Our first impression of this bustling place was that the service was pretty good.  It was busy that night and the only seats available is outside, however it was freezing cold so the waitress promised to let us sit inside when a table is available.  Sure enough when the table was available we got to sit inside, but it turned out being inside but right at the door is colder than being outside with a heater!  So we changed our minds and sat outside.  Just as we settled outside there was another vacant table right inside the shop so we changed again!  LOL… they were so understanding about it.

photo 1 (2) [640x480]We also noticed that the decor includes a table with the winning combo of Mahjong LOL.  Dear readers, do you know what this winning combo is called?

We decided that as we were that hungry, we will share a few things.  MaPo tofu has a nice kick to it.  It was delicious and pretty much hits the spot.

The braised beef brisket with Lo mien (dry noodles which you can mix it together) tasted good. However I just wish the beef is more tender. That was my only complaint though.

photo 5 (2) [640x480]Fish ball soup was next.   I quite like this, it was served with two different types of fish balls. It did felt as if there was a bit of MSG added to it though.

photo 4 (2) [640x480]The stir fried gai lan (Asian broccoli) with oyster sauce, $12 was nice and tender, not to mention generous in size.

photo 4 [640x480]Quite impressed, I returned the next day with Shoe Queen.  I once again order the lo mien, but this time with roasted chicken and roasted duck.  It was OK, I still like the noodles better than the meat.  I think with good roast meat you are better off going to Pacific BBQ House nearby.  The duck was too fatty and both meats are not succulent enough.

photo 5 [640x480]Shoe Queen ordered this baked pork chop with curry sauce and rice and DAMN can I say it looked as good as it tasted.  I seriously need to go back and have this.

photo 3 [640x480]Overall I quite like Shophouse Kitchen.  It has a lot of variety and both times the service was quite good and the prices are reasonable.  I will be back 7/10
