DPP_00092 [800x600]We landed in Siem Reap at Christmas noon, so headed straight to lunch across the river from Angkor Wat, in an open kitchen /house thing called Cher Leang Restaurant.

DPP_00093 [800x600]Situated right across the river from Angkor Wat, it was really the best spot for views of Angkor Wat for tourist and tuk tuk drivers alike.  LOL

DPP_00091 [800x600]As you can see the decor of this place is more shabby chic.  But it does have a beautiful cool breeze that goes through this open structure.

DPP_0081 [800x600]Whilst we are waiting for our food our tour guide bought us this bamboo stick.  Guess what it is?

DPP_0083 [800x600]Our tour guide slowly unwraps this to reveal the mystery inside…

DPP_00096 [800x600]It’s actually the sticky rice on my chicken and papaya salad dish USD$7.5!  Mixed with some sort of beans these rice had an interesting earthy flavours, I really love it!  The chicken I liked less, it was a bit tough but otherwise the papaya salad was delicious.

DPP_0084 [800x600]We came back to Cher Leang for lunch again another day when we visited Angkor Wat, and this time I wasn’t as impressed with my dish.  First of all it took AGES to arrive and I was hangry.  This squid with pepper dish wasn’t peppery at all, unless you decided to chew on the many many peppercorns that is decorated on the dish, then your mouth will probably be on fire.  =_=  Not super impressed at all.

Anyway, on our first day at Siem Reap we pretty much ran around getting our temple passes sorted then it was dinner with a traditional dance performance at night- stay tuned!
