Hello again from Hong Kong!  In my April visit to Hong Kong, my friend Ying and her family happened to holiday in Hong Kong as well, so I thought I would take her to somewhere authentically Chinese.  I of course consult my go-to foodie instagrammer in Hong Kong, little_meg_siu_meg.  Her food porn from around the world has made me drool and I couldn’t wait to try all the food she has taken photos of.  Little Meg has visited Kin’s Kitchen many a times so it seemed to be a great place to take my friends.  Little Meg has also kindly suggested a few things we should try, and what we needed to pre-order at Kin’s Kitchen.

photo 1 [800x600]It was during lunch so we ordered a few dim sums, I didn’t taste any as the main items I wanted to try is actually their Chinese cuisine, so I am saving my calories for that!

photo 4 [800x600]I can’t remember where I tried this before, but I love this fish – it’s called Nine Stomach Fish in Chinese and Bombay Duck Fish in English.  It is often deep fried and its texture is like soft pillowy clouds.  Kin’s Bombay Duck Fish is fried with seaweed so it added another dimension of unami-ness to it.

photo 2 [800x600] photo 3 [800x600]Ying wanted to try the thousand year old egg, and it seemed at Kin’s it’s only available as a deep fried perserved ginger and egg version.  I felt thatthere were too much batter and the thousand year old egg was too dry.  I would much prefer the versions in congee or the Taiwanese version on tofu.

photo 3 (2) [800x600]Ying also wanted to try intestine which I am totally not game enough to try.  I tried, I really did.  But putting one near my nostrils has rendered me choking back whatever I ate before.  I don’t know whether it’s psychological but I keep thinking that it smells like well… what’s in the toilet.

photo 5 [800x600]The smoked chicken though, was absolutely perfect at Kin’s.  Super tender with a beautiful hint of smokiness, I haven’t had better chicken anywhere else.

photo 1 (2) [800x600]Now this is pretty special too- unfortunately I stuffed up the picture after the bamboo net was lifted up, but this is pigeon cooked with leek.  Oh my nom nom noms.

photo 5 (2) [800x600]Dessert time!  And this little bums… ahem, I mean buns are perfectly steamed.  The pastry had just the right amount of moisture so it wasn’t soggy, yet it was light and fluffy.  The lotus seed paste instead was amazing – not too sweet and smooth as velvet.

photo 4 (2) [800x600]Our last dish is called “film” in Hong Kong.. cos it looks like film rolls.  Erm… dunno what film rolls are?  Oh man, what generation are my readers?  Like you know, before digital cameras…?  OK, google it :)  ANYWAYZ, give these little morsels a chance- they are black sesame and coconut flavoured jelly like dessert and it’s delicious.

I really love Kin’s (thank you again Little Meg for recommending!) and can’t wait to go back with my beautiful friends when they come and visit me in October!  After such adventurous foodie eats for Ying and her family, we of course went to Time Square for a bit of shopping to walk of all the calorific yumminess!  Stay tuned for the rest of my Hong Kong adventure!
